Romania inspires through innovation: 5 teams advance to the semifinals of the international Technovation Girls competition

Technovation Girls, the largest international entrepreneurship and technology competition for girls, has reached the semifinal stage, and Romania proudly boasts 5 remarkable teams: Digital Armie, Debuggers, and Big Brain++ for the Senior division, and 5ForLife and The Tough Cult for the Junior division. These extraordinary young women have impressed the jury with their innovative ideas and now continue to compete in the global judging stage. Let's take a closer look at these teams and discover together their ideas for making the world a better place!

How are girls changing the world for the better with the help of technology?

Team Digital Armie, composed of Maria-Emilia Iordache (a student at Gheorghe Lazăr National College, Bucharest), Ioana-Valeria Gavrila, Sofia Maia Bud, and Miriam Tranca (students at Emil Racoviță National College, Cluj), created a remarkable app called Angel’s Road. This platform successfully connects associations with donors and volunteers, facilitating collaboration between NGOs and those wanting to support causes they believe in. Through Angel’s Road, users can explore a range of NGOs and initiatives, enabling them to decide where to invest their resources. With this user-friendly application, Digital Armie opens new doors for connection and redefines, in an innovative way, what it means to be together. Sounds incredible, doesn't it?

Team Debuggers, composed of Iulia Panter, Antonia Tarfulea (students at the International Informatics High School, Bucharest), and Letiția Soare (a student at the Tudor Vianu National Informatics College, Bucharest), developed the UHelp app, an innovative solution designed to assist Ukrainian refugees in Romania. With an intuitive map-based interface, this application provides refugees with access to essential resources and services in their new community. The amazing girls from Debuggers, despite coming from different schools, came together for the competition and collaboratively built a real-time solution for a current issue: the war in Ukraine. With UHelp, these brave young women showcase how technology can be a positive force, bringing hope to those affected by humanitarian crises. What a wonderful example of solidarity and empathy!

Team Big Brain++, consisting of Alexia Maria Florete, Antonia Onișoru, Teodora Șerban, Maria Neagoie, and Ilinca-Maria Velciu, students at the Tudor Vianu National Informatics College in Bucharest, introduced the RecoverEats application, an innovative digital product aimed at treating and recovering from eating disorders. From logging meals and emotions to tracking progress and communicating with various specialists, RecoverEats redefines the connection between mind and body, offering support and valuable tools in an individual's eating journey. With their passion and determination, the awesome girls from the Big Brain++ team show us that technology not only helps us evolve but can also improve and even save lives.

In the Junior division, Team 5ForLife, comprised of Luiza Tamaș, Amalia Balașcă, Alessia Zapodeanu, Miruna Tanasă, and Sînziana Munteanu, students at the Gheorghe Pătrașcu Elementary School in Buruienești, developed the AllForHealth application, a digital product that combats unhealthy eating, an issue affecting the majority of the population and leading to numerous illnesses. The team understands the importance of improving this situation and the need for adopting a more mindful lifestyle regarding daily food intake. Through their app, they encourage users to make healthier food choices and monitor their eating habits.

The second team for the Junior division is Team The Tough Cult, made up of Laura Moldovan, Silvia Carlan, and Laura Anghel, students at the "Tudor Vianu" National College of Computer Science in Bucharest. They developed the EcoReads application, which addresses the issue of paper waste and its impact on the environment. Their solution involves creating a platform that connects book donors with recipients in a simple and efficient manner. Their app allows users to post books they wish to donate and browse through books available in their local community.

"A new edition of a heartfelt project is nearing its end. For me, it's an honor to organize such an amazing project and to see how year after year we manage to bring together a talented community of young girls passionate about technology. I had the chance to get to know the teams from the beginning of the competition and to be there for them throughout the journey. It's fascinating in the end when I see the results of their work and realize how much they've managed to grow in just a few months.

Many thanks to all the parents, teachers, mentors, judges, and partners involved in the program. Each of you has contributed immensely to the development of the next generation of female leaders in the IT field. Let's continue to support each other, break down barriers, and embrace diversity in technology," Maria Popescu, organizer of Technovation Girls Romania and Project Manager within the Adfaber association, told us.

The remarkable result of the Romanian teams complements an international picture filled with joy. This year, the Technovation Girls competition recorded a record participation, with over 2,100 entries from more than 60 countries. This aspect indicates that young women from all over the world are increasingly interested in developing their technological and entrepreneurial skills and using their creativity to solve problems in their communities. Digital Armie, Debuggers, Big Brain++, 5ForLife, and The Tough Cult remind us that perseverance, determination, and innovation know no bounds. Regardless of age, gender, or location, each of us can contribute to changing the world for the better. Let's be inspired by the passion and courage of these young women and ask ourselves, "What can I do to bring about a positive change in the world?"

In conclusion, we leave a word of encouragement for these teams and for all young people eager to follow their dreams: Be brave, embrace the challenges around you, and never underestimate your potential! You have the power to turn ideas into actions, and you can certainly make a difference in the world we live in. The future is yours, and the Technovation Girls competition might just be the beginning of a magical journey.

Congratulations to the teams Digital Armie, Debuggers, Big Brain++, 5ForLife, and The Tough Cult for their outstanding performance in the Technovation Girls competition! Best of luck in the next stage!
