Adfaber Association proudly announces the remarkable senior teams that have emerged as winners in the sixth edition of the Technovation Girls competition, organized in Romania with the support of BCR as the National Partner.
615 girls from Romania, guided by mentors and organizers, have developed innovative applications that address critical societal issues, demonstrating their commitment to creating positive change through technology.
Globally, in this edition, there were over 2,100 entries in the international Technovation Girls competition from over 60 countries, making this year the most participated in the program's history.
The efforts and achievements of the students were celebrated and awarded during the Regional Pitch Technovation Girls event in Bucharest, where five teams had the opportunity to present their final projects: innovative mobile applications with real social impact.
How are girls changing the world for the better with the help of technology?
Digital Armie, Debuggers, and Big Brain++ are the three semifinalist teams that move on to the global judging stage.
Team Digital Armie has developed an application that connects associations with donors and volunteers. Angel’s Road is a transformative platform that bridges NGOs with potential donors or volunteers. This user-friendly application simplifies the resource allocation process, making it easier for individuals to have a positive impact on their communities. Angel’s Road presents users with a diverse range of NGOs and their causes, giving them the opportunity to choose the initiatives they are most passionate about.
Team Debuggers developed the UHelp application, a product that assists Ukrainian refugees in Romania. With an intuitive map-based interface, the app helps refugees adapt to their new environment, ensuring access to essential resources and services. The team members come from different high schools, met during the competition, and jointly constructed a project that addresses a current issue: the war in Ukraine.
Team Big Brain++ presented the RecoverEats application, a digital product for the treatment and recovery of eating disorders. With features like meal logging, emotion recording, progress tracking, and connections with clinicians, RecoverEats revolutionizes the way individuals confront and recover from eating disorders.
In addition to the winners, two other teams received special mentions for their efforts in the competition:
Femmpower with the Defensely App teaches young women basic self-defense techniques and how to respond in situations of harassment. Defensely aims to raise awareness about the challenges women face and encourages girls to learn, grow, and take action against injustices.
Technogrills with the Rambex app, which is designed to address the global issue of over-packaging. By raising awareness among end-users about wasteful packaging practices, the app serves as a platform that encourages a community-driven movement towards sustainable packaging practices.
Why is Technovation Girls an important program for the female students in Romania?
In a world that's constantly evolving, Technovation Girls opens the door to exceptional opportunities for girls in Romania, empowering them to become future leaders and channel their imagination and creativity towards a noble cause. By participating in this program, they get a chance to grow personally and actively contribute to addressing various challenges in their community, such as environmental protection, health promotion, improving the educational system, and supporting equality.
Technovation Girls is a global entrepreneurship and technology program for students aged 8 to 18, unique in resources in the educational landscape of Romania.
The event brings together numerous experts in technology and entrepreneurship, who provide advice and guidance for young entrepreneurs. This would not be possible without project partners such as: BCR - National Partner, Technovation Girls Global, Adobe, Kiss FM, and Global Worth.
Additionally, this year the event hosted a special workshop dedicated to financial education, led by Alexandra Nicolae, a CSR enthusiast and coordinator of Scoala de Bani. It was a great opportunity to learn about key aspects of financial education.
"We are proud to be national partners in the Technovation Girls Romania competition and to support the community of girls who are changing the world with technology. Girls have extraordinary strength and we are delighted to be with them on this journey of learning and innovation," stated Alexandra Nicolae, representative of BCR, the National sponsor of the event.
"I believe this is the fourth or fifth edition where I have the honor to be among the judges of the Technovation Girls competition. As always, I am fascinated and amazed by the projects presented. It's absolutely magical what applications these girls can develop at just 16-17 years old. Thank you Adfaber for the invitation and thank you to the teams for the effort and time dedicated to this project. You inspire me!", confessed Andrei Istrate, one of the program's judges.
"Technovation Girls is simply an extraordinary experience. When we started the project, we didn't know exactly which path we would take, but we learned so much together and I'm very grateful to have been able to participate alongside my teammates in this project. The most important thing is to try, to step out of your comfort zone and to say yes to a challenge. Many thanks to our mentor, who encouraged us every step of the way and helped us get here.", shared Maria from the Digital Armie team.
After the national phase, the senior teams from Romania will move on to the global judging stage. Fifteen finalist teams from around the world will have the opportunity to present their ideas at the Technovation Girls World Summit, which will take place in October 2023, in San Francisco. We wish the Romanian teams the best of luck and thank them for their effort to make the world a better place.
