Young people shaping the future of tourism in Romania through technology - EDB StartUP 2025 Winners - 

The National Database Modeling Competition "EDB StartUP" 2025 marks another successful edition where high school students from across the country showcased their talent in database modeling. Organized by the Adfaber Association, alongside the Tudor Vianu National College of Computer Science in Bucharest, and sponsored by Oracle Academy, the competition brought together young technology enthusiasts who transformed theoretical knowledge into practical solutions.

EDB StartUP 2025: Technology redefines tourism

The participants accepted the challenge of designing solutions based on intelligent databases meant to monitor and manage information about the tourism areas in a city or region This year's theme encouraged students to create advanced digital systems capable of identifying places to stay, restaurants, tourist attractions and local events, while providing detailed analysis of tourist flows.
This is an important step in using technology to tackle real societal problems.

Passionate about technology and guided by dedicated teachers, the students transformed theoretical knowledge into concrete solutions, demonstrating skills in database modeling and analytical thinking. The projects were evaluated by a jury of IT specialists who assessed the originality, complexity, and practical applicability of each solution.

Who are the winners of EDB StartUP 2025?

🥉 3rd place is won by Echipa PDD, with the project „PDD Tours”. The project is realized by the students David Plocon Andrei, Dobre Alexandru and Pufu David, from the National College of Informatics "Tudor Vianu" in Bucharest, under the coordination of Prof. Elena Dragan.

🥈 2nd place is won by Echipa CXB Enterprises, with the project „Buzău Safari”. The project is realized by students Banu Andrei-Ioan and Coculescu Teodor, from the National College of Informatics "Tudor Vianu" in Bucharest, under the coordination of Prof. Vinț Corina-Elena.

🏆 1st place is won by Echipa CNER DM, with the project „Turist în Iași”. The project is realized by the students Darabană Rareș-Cristian, Stănescu Horia and Huțanu Andrei-Horia, from the National College "Emil Racoviță" from Iași, under the coordination of Prof. Cerchez Emanuela.

The winners' experience: challenges, lessons and visions for the future

Students shared their experience of participating in the competition, highlighting the challenges they faced, but also how they have evolved.

"What I liked most about this competition is its real-life applicability. It challenged us to come up with solutions to a current and concrete problem. Not just a theoretical exercise, it gave us the opportunity to develop a solution that can be implemented immediately." - student Darabană Rareș-Cristian - Team NREB DM, Emil Racoviță National High School, Iasi

EDB StartUP is not just a competition, but a learning and development opportunity for future generations of IT professionals. Through the educational resources offered by Oracle Academy, participants benefited from free courses and guidance in developing projects with a real impact on tourism.
The competition underlines the importance of digitization in the tourism sector, offering an innovative vision of how technology can improve tourists' experiences.
