ABOUT

The National Database Modelling Competition EDB StartUP is in its fifth edition. It is organized by ADFABER in collaboration with Tudor Vianu National College of Informatics in Bucharest and sponsored by Oracle Academy.

WHY

Using the Oracle Academy platform, they learn database modeling, and through this competition, students can test and validate what they have studied and be recognized for their effort.

THEME

Tourism Area Management System – this is the theme for this year's edition.

Through this project, we want to highlight the positive side of technology - Design a database system that monitors and manages information about tourism areas in a city or region.

The objective is to build a system that can identify places to stay, restaurants in the area, tourist attractions and local events, facilitate the analysis of tourist flow and provide recommendations to improve the tourist experience.

Teams can register for the competition until Thursday, November 29, at 11:59 PM.

Submission and Completion of Projects

Teams can submit projects via WE TRANSFER at edb@adfaber.orgor in archive form at the same address until Sunday, January 19, 23:59.

January 20 -
February 10, 2025

Judging projects

After the judging, three winning teams will be selected.

February 17, 2025

Announcement of the winners

Winners will be contacted by phone and e-mail and will be announced on the competition website.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who can participate in the competition?

The competition is open to all high school students who, by the start date of the competition, October 14, 2024, are enrolled in a high school institution and have their domicile in Romania.

2. Can a teacher coordinate multiple teams?

Yes, a teacher can be the coordinator of several teams, but a student cannot be part of more than one team.

3. When and how can we submit projects?

The projects will be submitted between December 2 and January 19, 2025 via WE TRANSFER, to the address ebd@adfaber.org, or as an archive to the address edb@adfaber.org

4. How will the judging be done?

Judging will take place between January 20 - February 10, 2025 according to the scale available in the competition rules. The jury will choose 3 winning teams.

5. What is the theme of the project?

Intersection Traffic Management System" – this is the theme for this year's edition.

With this project, we want to highlight the positive side of technology - Design a database system that monitors and manages traffic flow at various intersections in a city. 

The system should track the number of vehicles, traffic light times and any incidents or accidents.

6. What should the project contain?

The uploaded project must be in the form of a Google Slides or PowerPoint presentation file with the title of the realized project and must contain a presentation of 10-13 slides where the following sections are touched:

  • team name and names of members
  • presentation of the usefulness of the project, interviews and references
  • final database system with partial explanations 
  • examples of reports which can be derived from the data contained in the future database and which can be used to improve the infrastructure
  • final conclusions
  • a screen recording video in which the team presents the project and the role of each member
7. How will the winners be announced?

Winners will be notified by phone and email, and their names and project details will be posted on the competition website.
