Women into IT initiative – Coding With Greenfoot Sponsored by Oracle Academy

During September 27th to November 27th 2017, ADFABER organized the “Women into IT Initiative – Coding With Greenfoot” event sponsored by Oracle Academy. The high schools involved were Gheorghe Lazar National College, Ion Creanga National College, Gheorghe Sincai National College and Tudor Vianu National College from Bucharest.

During these events, 120 girls discovered the most well-known programming language: Java. Using the Greenfoot platform, they have managed to create their own game in a two-hour workshop. The girls have also understood that, regardless of the field they will choose in the future, technology will be an omnipresent component of  their life and their work.

Both girls and teachers with whom we worked were very pleased by the outcome of the meeting, specifically, creating their own game using the Greenfoot platform. Also, we encouraged the girls to attend  “Java Competition- Coding With Greenfoot” a national high school programming competition. The girls were amazed of how interactive and fun was the experience and decided to continue the development of the game made in the workshop.

Due to “Women into IT Initiatives- Coding With Greenfoot” the girls have now access to the necessary resources for their preparation, in order to apply for the most popular and well-paid jobs of the 21st century.

Adfaber is a non-profit organization that promotes the development of society through technology. We aim to draw attention to the benefits of technology and to prepare the  future generations for a changing world.
